Our Heritage - Creek Art Fair visit in Bastakiya

DMC Arts Club members visited the annual Creek Art Fair in Bastakiya. The aim of this visit was to explore the historical districts of Dubai and to include some of the traditional symbols such as Barjeels, Old Doors, Abra Scenes in their paintings. The students visited 22 old houses that are being used as art exhibitions for artists from different countries. The students were very enthusiastic to take photos and sketch some of the interesting art they have seen. These photos and sketches gave them the inspiration for creating their own traditional artwork of Dubai.

The visit took place on Wednesday 26th Mach 2008, 2-5 pm. more

Diptych Art

Diptych Art

Meaning: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diptych

Diptych …”is any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge. Devices of this form were quite popular in the ancient world, types existing for recording notes and for measuring time and direction. The term is also used figuratively for a thematically-linked sequence of two books.”

I have found the following two websites very useful:

1) Diptych Art in photography: http://let-it-di.deviantart.com/

2) Mazoo Abstract art: http://www.mazoo.co.uk

Also check out: The Diptych Project: http://thediptychproject.googlepages.com/

here are some ideas for the Diggy Team I think we can try:

  • Black and white photography + tinted photos.

  • Representation of evolution of Dubai and UAE through the 5 tych art

  • Think more than diptych; photos can be tiptych, 4 tych and even 5 tych pieces of art.

  • Use the photos taken to create the flag of UAE or UAE map.

  • Theme based photos assigned to each person:

1. People: photos of old people to represent heritage, or the faces of Dubai

2. Plants and Animals: the Ghaf tree, the Arabian horse, camel, lizards and snakes of the desert

3. important heritage symbols ...Burj el Arab, twin towers, Bastakiya, Abra, coffee making, the majlez, ..what else?

4. important message you'd like to get through: if you had one message to get through to the rest of people in Dubai through your art and photos, what would it be?

Let's discuss these ideas and explore what other venues we woudl like to represent.

Remember; a picture can say more than a thousand words.

Yours in arting,

Lana
